TOPIC: The Art and Science of Decision-Making
WHEN: Tuesday, Feb 10 2026 at 11:30am-1:15pm EST (Lunch provided, program runs 12-1:15pm) **Check in opens at 11:30am**
WHERE: VSCPA Learning & Innovation Center, Innsbrook, 4309 Cox Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060
SESSION SUMMARY: When was the last time you paused to determine how well you are doing as a decision-maker? The typical adult makes hundreds of decisions each day, many of which could be described as medium or high-stakes situations. Learning more about how people interpret, frame, and act on information when time is limited can raise the likelihood of good outcomes.
In this session, we explore why experienced professionals make avoidable mistakes and examine the factors that separate excellent decision-makers from others. Blending behavioral insights with practical tools, this session challenges common assumptions about analysis, intuition, and “best practices.”
Participants will leave with clearer decision discipline, simple frameworks they can use immediately, and practical ways to improve decision quality—individually and in groups—when the stakes are high and certainty is low.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Use simple decision frameworks to improve clarity, speed, and confidence in ambiguous, high-stakes situations.
Recognize subtle decision traps that affect experienced professionals and apply techniques to reduce their impact.
Improve group decision quality, including how to surface assumptions, invite challenges, and find alignment.
